With the successful timing of the engine yesterday, I was able to knock out a few items today to make the car street legal in preparation for its first drive. The weather here has been pretty bad - heavy snow and a lot of rain afterwards. But today it was clear skies and a high of 40F. So it was perfect for a drive (well, maybe not perfect as it could have been warmer, like Florida warmer :-) ). And a short drive I did. To play it safe, I only went to the other end of the driveway (by way of the street) and back. The first time went well, the second time not so well - I got stuck in the mud and we had to lay down some gravel to get me out. Nothing ever goes perfectly. Both times it felt like I was driving with the parking brake on so there must be something misadjusted on the rear brakes, I'm going to jack up the rear end, pull the tires and see what's going on. Maybe tomorrow I can go for a further drive. VIDEO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5Jvp9AVMP4 |

This is the site to document the restoration of my 1969 Chevelle Convertible. This project has been going on since January 1999 when I began my search for a 1969 Chevelle convertible project car. Why did I get so hooked on this particular car? Well, it is a classic muscle car: V8 engine, raw power, etc. It has very nice lines. It is one of the few convertibles that can hold more than two people - since its a mid-sized car. I like hanging out with my friends and it's more fun in a Chevelle than in a Miata! I also had a two-door hardtop model in high school so I was very familiar with them. I searched for 9 months, checking various ads and online sites. I missed a couple of opportunities by a day or two. I finally found one in Houston, TX. Here is its story… |
